1. Organizing Location Plans

Let's go over location plans and how they work!

VIDEO GOES HERE

Introduction

This guide will walk you through the process of uploading new location plans, editing existing ones, and organizing them efficiently within Sign Agent.

A location plan in Sign Agent refers to any blueprint or map for your organization. Each plan is unique and used only once, even for building refreshes or code updates.

Uploading a New Location Plan

Creating a new location in SignAgent is very quick and easy through the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the 'Locations' section in the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Click on the wrench icon.

  3. Select 'New Location' from the options provided.

  4. Enter the required information:

    • Name (e.g., "Level 1")
    • Shortcode (e.g., "L1" for Level 1)
  5. Upload a PDF file of your location plan.

  6. Click 'Save and Close' to process the upload.

Considerations for PDF Uploads

When uploading location plans please bear these things in mind for optimal performance in SignAgent:

  • Scale: Ignore the 'Sign Agent Scale' field in most cases.
  • Document Dimensions: Ensure consistency for future updates.
  • Flattened PDFs: Use single-layer documents to prevent issues in Sign Agent.
Please, flatten and resize PDFs before uploading (refer to Sign Agent's articles for guidance).

Batch Importing Location Plans

In SignAgent, for larger projects, you can also upload multiple location plans at once following the below instructions:

  1. Click the wrench icon and select 'Batch Import'.
  2. Drag and drop files or use the file navigator to select multiple PDFs.
  3. For each plan, specify if it's a new location or an update to an existing one.
  4. Enter the required information (name, shortcode) for new locations.
  5. Click 'Import' to process all selected files simultaneously.

Creating Exterior Plans

Not every wayfinding project is indoors! Follow these steps on how to add exterior plans:

  1. Select 'New Location' from the wrench menu.
  2. Instead of uploading a file, enter an address in the designated field.
  3. The system will generate an exterior map based on the provided address.
  4. You can toggle between street view and satellite view as needed.

Organizing Location Plans

In project management, staying organized is always extremely important. In this case, we always recommend using a nested folder structure to do this in SignAgent:

  1. Use the 'New Folder' option to create organizational structures.
  2. Arrange plans hierarchically (e.g., Hospital > Campus > Building > Floor).
  3. Click on plans to highlight them for easy navigation.
  4. Use shortcodes for folders when helpful, though they're not mandatory.

Summary

  • Maintain consistent scale across plans when possible.
  • Flatten PDFs before uploading.
  • Organize plans by building as a starting point.
  • Use the folder structure to reflect your organization's layout.
  • Leverage shortcodes for efficient sign identification and management.

By following these instructions, you'll be able to effectively upload, edit, and organize your location plans in Sign Agent, creating a solid foundation for managing your signage system.
