Permissions vs. Licenses

If the complexities of permissions and licenses are making your hair curl, then it's really more of a perm-ission.

Permission

Permissions refer to what data a user has access to. They determine two things:

  1. What signs a user can see
  2. Whether they can edit the content of those signs or only view them

There is a lot of additional complexity from the level and type of permissions a user has and how they interact that can be read about in this article.

License

Licensing refers to payment. In order to be given the editing permissions mentioned above or use the mobile app, a user requires a paid license.

  • If a company is paying for a user's license, they can be given any kind of permission
  • If a user doesn't have a paid license and is using a free account, they can only be given non-editing access (view and review)
