Why are my Signs Exporting as Dots?
Having trouble with your location plan Export? Signs only showing up as tiny dots? This article explains how to fix it.
The system will revert sign markers to dots when it doesn't have enough room to display them normally without overlapping information. When on the web or in the app, we can see the markers simply by zooming in further or turning off the visibility for some signs. In exports however, we have to decrease the font and marker scale which can be done in the export settings.
Tip: a number between 1 and 3 is usually best. This could be 1.25, 2.5, 2.75, etc.
- Lots of signs on a plan
- Sign markers that are tightly clustered together (this is most common)
- Long sign IDs
If reducing the marker and font size does not resolve this, or the resulting tags are too small to read, you'll need to turn off the visibility of some signs so that the system can display them fully and export your plans a few times with different sign types turned on and off.
If you plot signs directly on top of each other, the export will always display signs as dots. In this case, you MUST turn off some sign types. If the signs plotted on top of each other are of the same type, you'll need to combine them (for example, if they are locker room numbers, use one marker and assign a quantity) or assign some of them to a different sign type. We recommend avoiding plotting signs directly on top of each other for this reason.
Sometimes you will need to export your plan a few times to find what we call the "sweet spot", which is the largest possible marker size you can get before the sign tags "collide".
